Arise Television anchor, Rufai Oseni, has berated the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his recent remarks about the 2027 general elections.
Oseni spoke on Wednesday during the ‘What’s Trending’ segment of Arise Television’s Morning Show, anchored by Ojy Okpe, while reacting to Wike’s declaration that President Bola Tinubu must win the FCT in 2027.
He also reacted to Wike’s revelation that he worked against Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2024 Edo governorship election, because of his feud with former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Oseni accused Wike of doing things in private and then coming out to brag in public.
His words: “With Minister Nyesom Wike, he will be the one to do it in private, and he will still be the one to come and tell us in public. That’s how he does it. Nobody will ask him, but he will think he’s bragging to us. Wike doesn’t say what he can’t do. Wike is just a reflection of how bastardised our election system has become.”
He faulted Wike for admitting that Ighodalo was a good candidate and former bank chairman, but still working to ensure his defeat because of his disagreement with Obaseki.
“You keep calling for a better Nigeria, but because you had a grouse with the person that brought the candidate, you were more concerned about destroying that candidate and not letting him thrive, so that a worse-off candidate would be there. You saw a quality candidate that can benefit people in this country, but you subjugated that candidate because of the former governor. You can see that the joke is on him,” Oseni added.
Oseni also revisited the controversies around the 2019 Rivers State governorship election where collation was suspended by INEC before Wike was declared winner, and the 2023 presidential election in Rivers where a BBC report raised questions about the official results.
