A Lagos court has handed down a heavy punishment to Fidelix Samuel Ebuka after he was convicted and sentenced to eight years and three months in prison over a N90 million money laundering case.
The dramatic courtroom judgment was delivered on Friday by Justice Yellim Bogoro of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, following Ebuka’s guilty plea to a 14-count charge filed against him by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Ebuka had initially denied the allegations when he was arraigned on June 10, 2026, but the tide turned when he returned to court on July 8 and changed his plea from “not guilty” to “guilty.”
The EFCC had accused him of retaining N90,989,517, funds which the agency said were proceeds of unlawful activities.
One of the charges stated that Ebuka, on or about April 15, 2026, kept the money in his Union Bank account number 0069938215 despite allegedly knowing that the funds were linked to unlawful activities.
After his guilty plea, prosecution counsel Bilkisu Buhari asked the court to convict and punish him according to the law.
In a judgment that sealed his fate, Justice Bogoro sentenced Ebuka to eight years and three months behind bars, with an option of an N8.5 million fine.
