Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially collected his receipt of payment to contest in the Presidential Primaries of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling his readiness for another bid at Nigeria’s presidency.
The development further strengthens speculation that Atiku will emerge as one of the leading contenders for the ADC presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections. Political observers believe his move is part of a broader opposition realignment aimed at challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next election cycle.
Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, recently formalized his relationship with the ADC after officially picking up his membership card.
Within the ADC, discussions around the presidential primaries have already intensified, with party stakeholders insisting the process will be transparent and competitive. Some party chieftains have also dismissed claims that Atiku intends to influence the primaries with money politics.
The move comes amid ongoing coalition talks and internal political realignments among opposition figures across Nigeria as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum.
