Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said he fears he could soon be arrested by the Federal Government, citing recent events as indications that he may be targeted next.
El-Rufai made the remark on Wednesday during an interview with BBC Hausa, where he raised concerns about what he described as increasing political pressure on opposition figures.
The former governor, who recently left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), disclosed that some of his close associates had already been taken into custody.
“Four people we worked with in Kaduna have been arrested; it may only be a matter of time before they come for me,” he said.
Although he confirmed that he has not been arrested, El-Rufai suggested that the detention of his associates could signal possible action against him.
He further alleged that politicians were being pressured to either defect to the APC or remain loyal to the ruling party.
According to him, the current political atmosphere is compelling individuals to act out of survival rather than personal conviction.
El-Rufai, who served as Kaduna State governor for eight years under the APC, has recently stepped up his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the party’s leadership.
