Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has launched a scathing personal attack on Senate President Godswill Akpabio, blaming him directly for the controversy around the Electoral Act amendment.
In a televised interview, El-Rufai dismissed the idea that the Senate as an institution is at fault, insisting:
It is not the Senate that is the problem here. Akpabio is the problem.. By every definition, he is a scumbag.
He went further to describe Akpabio as a lapdog to President Bola Tinubu and urged opposing senators to unite and resist the proposed changes when the National Assembly reconvenes.
El-Rufai also rejected referring to Akpabio as Distinguished, citing their long acquaintance since the 1990s.
This marks one of the most direct and personal criticisms from a prominent political figure in the ongoing debate over electronic transmission of election results.
