Mrs. Tinubu, an ordained pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God—one of Nigeria’s largest Pentecostal denominations—was present at the annual event attended by US Congress members, religious leaders, and international guests.
Trump’s remarks highlighted her faith leadership while the backdrop included renewed US attention on alleged attacks on Christians in Nigeria, following Trump’s late-2025 designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” over religious freedom concerns—a move strongly disputed by the Nigerian government as inaccurate and divisive.
