For over 20 years, Late President Muhammadu Buhari was the undisputed political leader of Northern Nigeria.
Anywhere Buhari goes, the entire North goes. He enjoyed a cult-like followership, and my Northern brothers and friends never cared whether he was competent or not. They just know it must be him.
With his demise in 2025, the North is searching for a new leader.
Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso will both want to claim right to that position.
But the event of 2027 will be an opportunity for each of them to prove their popularity and who would take over from Buhari.
