The General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, on Wednesday, 19th November 2025, served as a mentor at the Queens Club Initiative session organised by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA).
The Queens Club Initiative is a school-based empowerment programme launched by DSVA to help young girls challenge harmful socio-cultural norms, embrace positive femininity, and build the confidence needed to navigate adolescence. Through weekly group discussions and one-on-one interactions, selected girls are trained to become peer educators and advocates for safe and empowered girlhood.
Addressing the girls on the topic “Grit, Resilience and Tenacity,” Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal encouraged them to develop the strength of character required to rise above challenges, stay focused on their goals, and believe in their potential. She emphasized that grit and resilience are essential qualities that shape leaders, especially in a world where young girls often face pressure and uncertainty.
She commended DSVA for creating a safe space for young girls to learn, reflect, and grow, noting that mentorship remains a powerful tool for guiding adolescents through sensitive issues such as self-esteem, reproductive health, relationships, and personal safety.
The session is part of a six-week programme held during co-curricular hours in selected secondary schools across Lagos State, culminating in an induction ceremony scheduled for 20th November 2025. Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal’s participation reinforces the state’s commitment to nurturing empowered, informed, and resilient young girls who can positively influence their peers and communities.
