Elder statesman Chief Edwin Clark, a prominent figure in the Niger Delta region, expressed his surprise upon learning that out of the 109 senators in the National Assembly, 55 are Muslims and 54 are Christians. He emphasized that anyone who believes Christians will be disregarded must be mistaken. Clark expressed his satisfaction with the proceedings that took place in the Senate chamber and extended his gratitude to the 109 senators for selecting Senator Akpabio as their leader.
Speaking during an interview with Arise Television, Clark shared his astonishment at the religious composition of the senators. He firmly dismissed any notion of Christians being marginalized, stating that yesterday’s events brought him joy. He commended all 109 senators for their conduct, drawing from his own experience as a former senator.
Clark disclosed that Akpabio had approached him prior to the election and received his endorsement, even though many doubted Akpabio’s chances of winning the position of Senate President. Clark expressed his belief that his prayers for Akpabio were answered by God.
In addition, Clark congratulated Senator Yari, who emerged as the Senate President with 46 votes despite competing against Godswill Akpabio. He noted that Yari displayed commendable behavior by embracing the candidate who had lost the election.
