On This Day in 1994: Ojukwu Married Bianca.
In 1989, several months after winning the Nigerian version of Miss Intercontinental, Bianca Onoh opted to resign rather than end it, after it emerged that she was in a relationship with Biafran leader,
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, a political associate of her father who was 34 years her senior, a certain tabloid falsely reported that she was pregnant. Although the couple never confirmed or denied the affair until their wedding on November 12, 1994.
The pageant organisers, Silverbird Television frowned heavily at it as MBGN holders are restrained from having public love affairs, she decided to relinquish her crown despite not acknowledging or debunking her affair with Ojuwku at the time.
The first runner-up, Regina Askia, assumed her position and completed Bianca’s tenure as Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria. The main concern for the young beauty queen was completing her education as a Law student.
The news of their relationship was huge back then. For weeks it made it to the front pages of all the local and African tabloids. Even Ojukwu was teasing the public the way he inserts her name on his public speaking.
Ojukwu was madly in love with Bianca:
In 1994, having finally obtained her Law degree, Bianca married the Biafran warlord in a lavish wedding ceremony that took place in Abuja. Ojukwu enjoyed good 17 years of blissful union before his sad exit in November 2011.
Interestingly, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu was born in November, got married to Bianca Onoh in November and died in November.
