Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called on President Bola Tinubu to release the long-awaited forensic audit report of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), alleging massive financial irregularities linked to a former first family of Rivers State.
Speaking at a public forum, Wike alleged that the wife of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, received ₦4 billion monthly for one year from the NDDC under the guise of a programme to train women in the Niger Delta.
“I call on President Tinubu to release the forensic audit of the NDDC,” Wike declared. “If that transaction is not captured in the report, I will resign as FCT Minister.”
The former Rivers State governor did not provide evidence to substantiate his claims. Efforts to reach Mr Amaechi and the NDDC for comment have so far been unsuccessful.
The forensic audit of the NDDC, commissioned under the Buhari administration, was aimed at uncovering years of alleged corruption and mismanagement within the agency. However, the findings of the audit have yet to be made public, sparking ongoing calls for transparency.
Wike’s remarks are likely to deepen tensions within the political class and renew scrutiny over past and present dealings at the NDDC.
